SURFACING: Photography for Human Rights

The second edition of Surfacing is calling for interested participants to do photostories on the desaparecidos. I participated in the first edition that resulted in the work Coping with a Desaparecido which was exhibited in the Chobi Mela V International Festival of Photography. For those who are interested, check this link out. Selected works will be exhibited on 10 December for World Human Rights Day.

Ballsy Aquino addressing the crowd after the La Naval de Manila procession

Looking through my images while transferring the RAW files to my 1 Tb expansion hard disk, I saw this image of Ballsy Aquino just after the La Naval de Manila procession, October 2009, addressing the crowd and thanking them for the homage and respect they showered on her deceased mother, former president Cory Aquino.

The last batch of 121 images for color separation and check

Now that the last batch of images (batch 1 and batch 2) has been color separated, printed and checked, I’m almost done with the Balaanong Bahandi book project. Come September, I will just check the layout as well as sample prints of the actual book and I’m done with this one except for the launching.

Yes, I’m finished with photo editing work, all 372 images, with the last one, Carmen Church, proving to be a challenge with all those wires at the façade. What is left to do is burn these jpegs to CDs, send one to the layout artist and another one to the printer for color separation. If the last batch proves to be okay, like the first, I’m done.

Whew! Never imagined that this shuttling back and forth between Makati and Cebu would finally come to an end after many months, as far as taking these images are concerned.

The second batch of images, around 150, printed for color check

Layout of the book should be done by September then confer with the layout artist and printer. It should be launched by the end of November.

I should be back in Makati by next week.

Images printed for color checking

Images printed for color checking

I got the first batch of images for the Balaanong Bahandi book that I have submitted last week for color separation check yesterday afternoon and all are okay. Nothing to be re-edited and corrected. Probably this weekend, 150 images and next week, the remaining 120. If all goes well, I’m back in Makati by the end of the month.
