A spider apartment

My work, Gagamboys was included in the exhibition, Asian News in Pictures that is currently on going right now at THE BLOCK, SM North EDSA. It is one of six photo stories featured in the event.

Gagamba (spider) fighting, a bloodsport of sorts, is a pastime for many Filipino youngsters in the rural areas during the summer months of March to May. In the provinces of Nueva Ecija and Quezon, the youngsters collect spiders which they then set up for fights, placing them at opposite ends of a stick and goading them to engage each other until one falls off the stick.

In Metro Manila, for instance, Bagong Barrio, Caloocan City, on the other hand, the sport is enjoyed by adult men in a similar way as cockfighting.
