Photographer's cost of doing business calculator

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

This cost of doing business calculator is very important for working professional photographers or for those aspiring to be one. Useful to have an idea how much to charge for a particular assignment considering one’s investment and photography as a source of income. No more guesswork needed.

Eisen Job Alquiza provided me the file for sharing and was initially available at binarysilver.com with 469 downloads. While the currency is in Philippine Peso, this calculator is still useful for other nationalities/countries. Just replace it with your preferred currency.

Balaanong Bahandi book launching today

"Balaanong Bahandi: Sacred Treasures of the Archdiocese of Cebu" will be launched today at 1830H

"Balaanong Bahandi: Sacred Treasures of the Archdiocese of Cebu" will be launched today, 26 November 09, 1830H at the Cathedral Museum of Cebu

Finally, after a year of photographing the different parishes of Cebu with its heritage structures and architecture, priceless icons and treasures, our book, Balaanong Bahandi: Sacred Treasures of the Archdiocese of Cebu will be formally launched today, 26 November 09.

It has been a journey, a beautiful experience of knowing more about my home province through its religious heritage, visiting places and meeting new people as I covered the northeast and northwest part of Cebu including the islands of Camotes and Bantayan. The rest were covered by Mark Andrew Jorolan (southwest) and Lorens Gibb Lapinig (southeast).

I was also tasked to deliver a speech in behalf of the photographers and you can check the full text in this post.

From a short info:

Published by the Cathedral Museum of Cebu and the University of San Carlos Press and edited by Jose Eleazar “Jobers” Bersales. Written by Louella Eslao-Alix, TD Mansueto, Arnold Carl Sancover, Melva Rodriguez-Java and Fr. Brian Brigoli. Photos by (primary photographers) Lorens Gibb Lapinid, Estan Cabigas, Mark Andrew Jorolan, (contributing photographers) Fr. Jun Rebayla, SVD, Rudy Alix and Gil Maningo. Book design and layout by Lorens Gibb Lapinid.

Written, edited and photographed by Cebuanos and printed in Cebu.

More than 300 pages and full-color pictures.

The book will be available to the public starting 1 December and will cost P2,000. A signing event will also be held during Sinulog week (3rd week of January). Venue and actual dates to be announced.

Coping with a Desparecido, my work that is currently on exhibition in Chobi Mela V in Dhaka, Bangladesh is now available as a downloadable free ebook. What drove me to do this one?

I was looking at Masaru Goto’s outstanding website and other than the beautiful photojournalistic work, one thing that caught my attention was his downloadable PDF version. And I thought, why not?

Making this viewable offline is, I think, important in reaching out to interested parties. Another way of promoting my work. This PDF version is A4 sized and the images are large enough to cover about 90% of the paper. It consists of select 14 images with thumbnails and captions at the end pages. The photojournalist’s statement is also included in page 2.

Compared to Masaru’s layout, mine is more visually appealing. It was prepared with Adobe InDesign CS3 with built in security features that will limit printing as well as copying/extracting images. Metadata is also filled out.
