The Muslim slave raidings in Spanish colonial Philippines has always been a favorite subject and I have been documenting the remnants of that dark period in terms of photographing watchtowers, fortress and fortress-churches. That’s why, I was just so glad that a three part blog post I wrote for simbahan.net finally got published in a magazine.

Navigator magazine printed my article entitled Tea, Trade and Tears which first appeared here. For this one, I extended it to a more than a thousand word write up with images of fortress-churches, moro and ancient citadels in various places around the country like Bohol, Cuyo, Cebu and La Union.
