San Pedro de Argao
Last Holy Week, I was spending some time in Argao to document some lenten practices. In this southeastern town in the province of Cebu, there are still several antique ivory processional images that are brought out during this important religious event.
On Holy Tuesday, the antique ivory image of San Pedro is taken out to be dressed for the procession on Holy Wednesday. This icon is part of a set of ivory images that the church got, probably in the 18th or 19th century and were assigned to the prominent families of the town as caretakers.
My thanks to Leslie Obiso for assisting me.

The antique ivory image of St. Peter in Argao

On Holy Tuesday, the image is taken from it's cabinet and dressed for the Holy Wednesday procession. Leslie took charge of this activity.

The women practice to sing the "Miserere" which is sang as they follow the image along the procession route.

The icon's rooster that accompanies the image.

The carroza of San Pedro being prepared for the procession.

The carroza being transported from the recamadora's house to the church hits a minor snag.
