Desap edit for vewd.org contest discussion
Vewd.org’s Student Documentary Photography Contest had some changes for the People’s Choice Award. Instead of voting through a rating system, it is now via commentary to stoke discussion. I think, this is a better way that we finalists can learn more from.
To start, Panos Skoulidas started the discussion and commented on my work ( link to the thread here ):
STANLEY.. bravo, you touched a very important…
subject… you are brave and sensitive….
but i had to read the story to get it…. Tighter , tighter edit my friend…
you are close but again, i see lots of repetition here , 2 or 3 photos
that tells the “same” story… but not the whole story…
You also need to detach yourself from your own photos….
Although “emphasis” is important to wake up the numb consciousness,
… repetition is not… again you are up to something but not quite yet!
Question to you too:.. Why this subject was so important to you…
How do you mirror yourself in this essay? or is this clear PJ ( photojournalistic ) work?
For purposes of the discussion, I’m posting the images below with my re-edit. The numbers below each photo corresponds to the sequence in the slideshow at vewd.org.

The three photos below are the images that, I think, are redundant or can be removed from the final edit. However, I really would want to know what’s your opinion of it.
